I talk to my brothers a lot about med school and factors of being adoctor and it seems like we have to do everything correct in college, and everything includes "make everyone likes us"..... ; x# t5 {7 P* ]3 l% M0 `9 |

Yeah, I understand you totally because sometimes I feel that way too. But guess what, over the years I've found that I learn more from my mistakes than from successes. And as long as you are willing to learn from your mistakes they generally won't be lasting hurdles at least for med school application. Good luck!

Did you take any MCAT class provided by Kaplan/PR...before?
I got the Kaplan notes (4 books) which were really helpful for me, and there were some video lectures from somewhere I don't remember that were really good. I basically used these two resources the most. Otherwise I did practice exams like one every weekend for the couple months before my exam. Do ask around. It seems that different people prefer really different resources.

You are right in many aspects. As long as you graduate and pass the boards you are a doctor no matter where you graduate from. And after you finish your residency, no one will judge you based on which medical school you went to. Furthermore, it's not much harder to get into a good residency program from a lowly ranked school than from a highly ranked school. I think it's because all medical schools have to be accredited and they all use pretty much the same textbooks and teach the same material. Everyone then take the same USMLE test.

However, I would say a highly ranked schools would be helpful if you want to do research in the future or if you plan to go into a competitive specialty. In addition, I think a highly ranked school has more networking resources and may have better quality teaching (hard to compare, who has gone to two med schools? :p)

Could you please tell me how did you apply for the observeship with the doctors? Thanks
liluyuanlove 发表于 2009-8-4 09:09 PM
Well, there are several ways to go about doing this.
One is you can start by doing some volunteer work at a local hospital and there you'll meet doctors who might let you shadow.
Or you can contact your school's alumni office or career development and ask them to help you set it up with an alum who is a doctor. You'll probably have to do most of the work but they can give you some directions. This is assuming your school doesn't already have some kind of established program for this purpose.
Or maybe the easiest way, just go ask your college's pre-med advisor. :p

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0071496068/

至于need-based financial aid,跟成绩无关,就是要多申请或者只申请有financial aid for F-1 students的学校。
